The Evaluation of this blog experience
This blog has been an excellent communication tool for students. I was able to comment as well as see many of the students views on different aspects of management. I feel that the blog was able help me understand where people were deriving their opinions. I loved to hear people's personal experiences as well as stories about their terrible bosses. So as a communication tool this was very helpful. This blog is interesting and very helpfull. It helps us to lay out our thoughts on all the main topics of managemnt. However, sometimes the fact that we have to keep a record of all of the comments that we leave is very annoying. I loved writing my blogs, and commenting other people, but I think the whole comment portofolio can be avoided. At the end of the semester I think a print out of the persons blogs is enough to grade on. Whatever it might be the case, I did enjoy the writing part of the mangemnt of the blog.

The Poem
Whoever said management was a piece of cake
Needs to be given a little shake
They obviously do not have a clue
That telling people what to do
And accomplishing a major goal
Takes a smart and witty person to be able to play this role.
Needs to be given a little shake
They obviously do not have a clue
That telling people what to do
And accomplishing a major goal
Takes a smart and witty person to be able to play this role.

Personal traits and their value to a person
When taking the DISC test i was very critical of the outcome. I never thought that this test would actually pin point my exact personality and the way I think. The test revealed that i was a dominant conscientious, and I believe that this was correct. I am happy with this result, but i do wish that as my second trait I would be influential. I believe that being influential is very important if you are planning to mange other people. However I do not think this test gives a correct outlook on a person's managing style. I think a person with a dominant personality not always leads with this characteristic. People change everyday, and the only way to see who will be a good manager is to actually give the person some power over others.

My Future Goals
I am a very driven person, and I expect a lot in life. I work hard for my goals, and I always feel that although you cannot achieve perfection one should always try. At this stage of my life my clearest vision would be the carreer that I want to have. I see myself a few years after graduating working in a front office position, something like an investment banker or a trader of some sort. The way I am working to achieve my goal is by succeding first and foremost academicaly, by getting good grades. I am also networking, and looking for internships. I am par of numerous clubs and organizations, that will help me better package myself in order to acchieve this goal. My second goal in life is that of personal pleasure. I want to see the entire world. I want to trave and visit amazing cities and countries with long historical backgrounds, and beautiful landscapes. The castles in The Great Britain, the palaces in Paris, the pyramids in Egypt, Mexico, etc. My third goal is to settle down and have a very nice family. A loving wife, and healthy kids. Besides these goals my somewhat unrealistic goal is to live a life where money is not a problem. I hope by the job that I get that it will help achieve this goal, and this mission that sometimes creates so many problems in your personal life.

Decision Debriefing on the class
As a student in Baruch I never encountered a professor that allowed the test to be graded and weighed by the students. Professor Kurpis was more than generous in giving us the options. I picked the accomidation method in dealing with this problem in class. I recieved a very high grade, and no matter what was going to happen I knew that the decision would not hurt my grade. Before the option of dropping and curving was introduced I was a strong supporter of the curve. The idea that students do better on the second test is something new to me. From experience second test are harder and the mean usually is lower. So by droping this grade a person really does no good. A curve helps those students that worked hard and did not do so great. However, for the people that completely failed I believe nothing would have helped. Whether you curve or drop the first test, unless you change the way you study for the test or start studying you are not going to do good in the class. After the class came to it's decision I thought it was the right decision. It helped everyone and hurt no one. I am compettitive, but a fellow classmate getting a good grade does not affect me negatively. After everything that happened in the class I would not choose any other way of dealing with the situation. The issue of changing the grade or it's weight was not something that I really benefited from. Instead of a 99 I have a 100. I believe that speaking for other people and trying to make a decision in favor of those who will benefit from the decision is the best way. That's why I was mad at the people that went against the greater good of the class.

The Planning problem in the egg experiment
I felt that my group did a pretty good job defining our goals for the task at hand. We knew what we needed to do and created a design that should solved the problem. However when it came to step two we did not do such a good job. We have not asked for team members strenths when decide who will do what once the 10 minute time limit starts. I believe that this might have been our weakness as a team. We also did not design any alternatives to our plan. We felt confident that if executed we would have succeded in our task. We did however design a tactical plan. We created a design that would have held up if the execution stage would have went nicely. Step five is where the biggest problems came in. When it came time to execute the plan, people started diverting from the original plan and this created total chaos. The time limit played a big role in our inability as a team to finish the task. We did terrible in our lack of progress achieving the plan. I think we could have done better if we stuck to the plan and better designate people's involvment in the plan. We definetly needed an alternative plan that was simpler and faster to do.

My brush with the managers position
As a senior lifeguard for the NYC beaches i was promoted to being in charge of bay 12 in the Coney Island Beach. There are 21 bays that make up this beach and bay 12 was mine to manage. The issue that arose right away was the relationship between my fellow lifeguards. Once their equal, now i was put to manage them. I had three people to manage, and at first evrything was fine. I tried to please everybody on the bay by letting them have a say in how the bay was going to be run. It became a proble when i could not allow all request to go through was left to choose. Towards the end of the summer I decided to ignore people's demands and do what I felt was proper and follow my supervizors orders. You cannot please evrybody so at the end of the day just do it the way that it affects all of the employees equally, whether it is abd or good.
